The Children’s Home of Reading is a leading provider of counseling, treatment and education to children and families in crisis. Every day, nearly 400 children are benefited by our programs:
RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAMS
Two different Residential Treatment Programs serve up to 72 adolescent boys, ages 12-18 who have been abused, neglected, or face significant mental health challenges.
Residential Treatment Facility serves boys diagnosed with behavioral or psychiatric disorders whose behaviors require residential treatment:
Specialized Residential Treatment Facility provides treatment that is both confrontational and supportive in nature for youth who chose to participate in inappropriate relationships as a result of past trauma and neglect, as well as ineffective limits and guidance in their young lives:
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
We educate children who have behavioral issues and varied educational needs through two programs:
Alternative Education Program educates the children that reside on our campus.
CHOR Day Academy serves children throughout the community with special education needs. Licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a private academic school, the CHOR Day Academy serves children grades one through twelve who have special education needs that can be better met in an alternative setting.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
CHOR offers several community-based programs which are dedicated to determining the needs of children and families in those communities who are experiencing significant problems in life and meeting those needs in a qualitative manner. Prevention and education as well as traditional treatment methods are emphasized.
Specialized Foster Care program provides safe, loving homes for children who have been victims of abuse or neglect in their homes. Very often, this is a result of parents/ caregivers who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction and mental health issues that prevent them from appropriately caring for their children.
Adoption Services - Our goal is to reunite foster children with their families. However, if this is not possible we are able to seamlessly transition the child into an adoption setting within our own agency.
Lehigh Valley Community Program offers community-based treatment options with various levels of intensity. The program assists youth and their families in working towards building healthy relationships.
Berks Parents Services Collaborative program provides prenatal and postpartum case management services to women living in Berks County with a history or current use of drugs and / or alcohol.
Acute Partial Hospitalization Program
is for children ages 5-12 years old, suffering from moderate to severe,
acute psychiatric disorders which inhibit their daily functioning abilities.
Summer Therapeutic Activities Program provides specialized therapy, pet therapy, and outdoor activities that are designed to help children in their daily functioning. The program is tailored to assist children in their development of interpersonal skills, coping abilities, problem solving, and decision making.
