Blue Ribbon for Kids Awarded to CHOR Specialized Foster Care

Deb SchoenerDeb Schoener, Jamie Minick, and CHOR Services Specialized Foster Care Program (CHOR SFC) have received the Blue Ribbon for Kids Award from Berks County Children and Youth Services (BCCYS). The Blue Ribbon Award recognizes individuals and their organizations for their dedication in the prevention of child abuse and for their ongoing commitment in working with children who are neglected and/or abused in the county of Berks.

We have highlighted below the statements made by BCCYS at the Blue Ribbon Award Ceremony:

'CHOR SFC is known for going above and beyond in its efforts to improve the lives of children and prevent child abuse. A long time community based organization, CHOR SFC continually strives to meet the needs of Berks County children.'

Debra Schoener, Director; Jamie Minick, Licensed Professional Counselor; and CHOR SFC were nominated for the Blue Ribbon Award. The award was given based on the staff’s ability to place siblings together and keep children in their home school districts. In addition, the referral process is easily accessible.

Jamie Minick was recognized for her work with foster care children, their foster parents, and natural parents. Noted for providing excellent therapeutic services and interventions, she has been able to reunite children with their families by aiding them in overcoming challenges and making positive live changes. In tandem, Jamie also completes adoption and permanency planning, she was commended for being truly dedicated to serving the children and families of Berks County. CHOR Services Foster Care Program has been able to take harder to place children and make their placement a positive experience. Recruiting and retaining Reading foster families who are able to take sibling groups, as well as attracting bilingual staff and foster parents is a key strength of CHOR SFC.

Congratulations to Deb Schoener, Jamie Minick, and CHOR Services Foster Care Program for meeting the needs of Berks County and the children in their care.
