Treatment Philosophy

The treatment philosophy of CHOR Alternative Education Program is to provide our students with a well-balanced educational and therapeutic program, which will lead to their academic success.

Program Description

The alternative program is an on grounds alternative education program for students in residence at CHOR. The teaching staff is part of the therapeutic team that works with the student to provide a successful program. The school day runs from 8:00am until 2:30pm. It includes instruction in Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, Art and Physical Education. Each classroom has MH staff that support the educational program while working with students therapeutically.

Students attending the educational program are consistently evaluated daily in two specific areas: academic growth and social and behavioral goals. There are four marking periods and students are recognized for their academic achievement at the end of each marking period through Honor Roll and Distinguished Honor Roll. Seven social and behavioral goals are also monitored in every class and throughout the academic day by utilizing a point system. This information is a key component used by the residential staff in determining movement within a clearly defined level system.

Instruction is designed to help students make up educational “gaps” while working toward the necessary credits needed for high school graduation. CHOR provides communication with parents/guardians and home school districts to help the student make the necessary transition back to a traditional school setting.
